Terms of use

Last updated October 11, 2026

These terms cover your use of the Hearthplate app, the Apple Watch app, this website and the Hearthplate service (together, "Hearthplate"). Hearthplate is provided by Ryan McCoy ("we", "us"). By using Hearthplate you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it. The licence to the app itself is Apple's standard end user licence agreement for apps, and these terms add to it.

Using Hearthplate

You may use Hearthplate for your own household's meal planning and shopping. You are responsible for your account, for what you add, and for keeping your household invite code to people you want in your household.

You may not: copy, reproduce, republish, sell or build a competing app or service from Hearthplate, its screens, design, code, recipe library, pictures, or text; scrape, crawl or bulk-download its content or data by automated means; reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract its source code or the workings of our service; bypass or interfere with its security, usage limits, subscription checks or rate limits; or use it in any way that breaks the law or harms others.

What we own, and what you own

Hearthplate, including its name, logo, design, code, recipe library, pictures and the way it works, belongs to us and is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. All rights are reserved. Using Hearthplate gives you a personal, limited, non-transferable right to use it. It doesn't transfer any ownership to you.

The recipes, notes, photos and other things you add are yours. You give us permission to store them and show them to your household so Hearthplate can work. Only save recipes and photos you have the right to use, and only for your own household's use.

Food, allergies and health

Recipes, nutrition figures, price estimates, substitutions and AI-written recipes are provided for convenience and may contain mistakes. Hearthplate tries to avoid the allergies and diet needs you enter, but it cannot guarantee a recipe is safe. Always check ingredient labels and use your own judgement, especially with food allergies. Hearthplate is not medical or dietary advice.

Third-party services

Some features use other companies' services: Clerk and Apple for sign-in, Anthropic's Claude for AI-written recipes (only after you allow it), Kroger for store prices and carts, and TikTok links you choose to save. Their own terms apply to those parts, and they may change or stop working. See the privacy policy for what is shared.

Hearthplate Plus

Hearthplate Plus is an optional subscription bought through Apple. It renews automatically until you cancel in your Apple account settings. Payment, renewal, refunds and cancellation are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. One subscription covers the household it is used in.

Changes and ending use

We may change, suspend or stop any part of Hearthplate, and we may close accounts that break these terms. You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may update these terms, and the date at the top will change when we do. Continuing to use Hearthplate after a change means you accept it.

No warranty, and limits on our liability

Hearthplate is provided "as is" and "as available", without promises that it will always work or be free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses from relying on recipes, prices or AI-written content, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have under the law that cannot be limited.

Law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, USA, and by the laws that apply to your Apple purchase where the law requires it. Questions or complaints, including reports of anyone copying Hearthplate: support@hearthplate.app.
